The Kansas City Chiefs
After the Dallas Texans moved to Kansas City, the franchise went on to become one of the NFL’s most successful. It has won a world championship, retired ten numbers and boasts an impressive roster of Hall of Fame players.
After a disappointing season, the Chiefs started this year on a winning streak that included an overtime victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Chiefs then eliminated the Buffalo Bills from the playoffs, and fans took the opportunity to donate to Oishei Children’s Hospital in the team’s hometown.

The KC Current
The KC Current are hoping to make it three wins in a row when they take on the Portland Thorns in the NWSL championship on Saturday. The local team has made waves in the area and gathered a passionate fan base. They are also building a new stadium in a long-neglected riverfront section of downtown.
The team has already won two NWSL titles and a Shield, but they are hungry for more. This year’s championship game will be broadcast on CBS. Union Station and the Downtown KC skyline are set to be lit in teal for the occasion.
Fans can get a head start on their season tickets for the new stadium by placing a deposit now. The deposits include access to exclusive member-only events and benefits.
The Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium
The Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium is a world-class facility with a mission to advance culture and science by connecting people to wildlife. The zoo also participates in breeding and conservation programs to help endangered animals survive.
The zoo’s new Sobela Ocean Aquarium is a 650,000-gallon attraction that tells the story of how ocean currents connect sea life across the globe. The facility includes six habitats with a total of 34 exhibits. It will showcase a variety of animals, including sand tiger sharks and a giant Pacific octopus.
Variety KC’s donation enabled the inclusion of an AED in the aquarium so guests with special needs can enjoy this new experience safely and confidently. The zoo also has several Variety communication boards throughout the aquarium to allow guests who cannot speak to communicate visually.
KC Wine Co
KC Wine Co is a boutique winery outside of Olathe that offers a one-of-a-kind wine drinking experience. Its owners, Kirk and Julie Berggren, moved their pumpkin patch to new land that happened to come with a vineyard. Their daughter Taylor runs KC Wine Co today.
They have four white wines and six reds on the menu, including Norton and Chambourcin. Most of the grapes for these wines are grown onsite. However, they also purchase grapes from other locations.
Their tasting room is a vintage-inspired “barrel” space with lots of seating. They serve wine slushies and ciders, too. Food trucks are available on some days. They also offer a wide range of cheeses and meats. They are a registered agritourism business.
